Autumn Leaves / Aŭtuna foliaro

Autumn Leaves

In flirting dance, the rainbow host
Of leaves is here: to biting frost
And driving wind at last they yield.
To drift and float through town and field;
Now gather close, now leap apart,
Sink and stop and stir and start,
Here in rustling heaps forlorn,
There in silent swathes to mourn,
Then up and on, as new winds blow,
Bereft of will or goal they go,
Until they halt their giddy glide
To find the rest so long denied:
Stacked like withered sheaves to drowse
Beneath a lone tree's naked boughs.

Tradukis K. Gilmore

Aŭtuna foliaro

Foliaro, flirte danca
en koloroj centnuanca,
prujnmordite ventpelate
ŝvebas ĉie: kampe, strate;
jen kuniĝas, jen dissaltas,
tie sinkas, tie haltas
por susuri, sible plendi,
jen funebre por silenti,
poste supren, ek pro blovo,
sed sencele kaj sen povo
ĝis ĝi ĉesas kirle krozi
kaj ariĝas por ripozi,
kuŝi kiel morta garbo
sub soleca seka arbo.

Julio Baghy
