  3. "What's it about? An elaboration of the 15 topics of the B2-level KER exam" in Esperanto. Written by Szabolcs Szilva.

This book has been written for learners who have achieved level A2 or B1 in Esperanto and who want to work towards B2 level and/or prepare for the B2 KER examination. The book is based on the list of 15 themes that are used in the B1 and B2 level KER exams. You can find them here.

The book consists of 15 chapters, each relating to one of the themes from the list. Each chapter has a text about related sub-themes, a list of questions that might typically come up in the spoken exam, and a list of useful related vocabulary.

  8. I'm extremely late with organising this, but I set a little challenge amongst "Babilejo," a Facebook Group that is predominantly made up of recent Esperanto learners (481 members). https://www.facebook.com/groups/365185520692397 The challenge is a creative writing challenge, which I've tentatively named PoCeVoTo for Po Cent Vortoj Tage. As I designed it to run for the calendar month of January, you'll need to catch up! If you want to consider the challenge, here are the details:- What? PoCeVoTo - or Po Cent Vortoj Tage 100 words per day (although you don't strictly have to write 100 words each and every single day - it's a suggested average to get you above 3000 words for the month) 1st - 31st January 2021 3,000+ word short story (novelo) No set theme New story in Esperanto, not a translation Where? From your mind to the page or screen. Consider sharing here on the EAB forums, on Babilejo, your own page(s), Wattpad or similar. Use tags such as "pocevoto", "Esperanto" Why? To encourage the new influx of Esperanto speakers to explore the language, to think in Esperanto and to spread their love of the language. This idea is open to everyone and anyone. PoCeVoTo is a concept that is completely self guided. It has been modified from other sources like NaNoWriMo, which is an idea to write a 50,000 word novel during one November. You could, of course, write an Esperanto novel then and there - this concept is to challenge you to write a new Esperanto work that is less daunting in size and scope. I must also reference Simone Davis for her previous work in challenging people to write an 100 word Esperanto story in a week at 17 words per day. This is really an extrapolation of that. This is not a competition. There will be no checking of any work, nor comments made about spelling, grammar, use of Esperanto words - unless you specifically ask for them. This is a free, friendly and non-judgemental challenge. It is meant to be a supportive community of sharing, love, creativity and fun. I recognise that there are other outlets & competitions for new works of Esperanto literature - this one is deliberately free and open to all. Likewise, DO NOT HARASS recognised Esperanto teachers and experts into proof-reading your work. Discuss concepts and issues, and people are probably more than likely to give you a hand. This is really just a trial. I'd be more than happy if a dozen people give it a go. Please feel free to share the idea and concept. You can reference me if you like, but it is not necessary. At the end of the month, I'd love some feedback, as there are lots of aspects that could be tinkered with, such as: the name, the frequency, do we pair it with Esperanto Sumoo, does it become more formal, etc. It may sink completely!
I thoroughly enjoyed book one of “Jen Nia Mondo”. I found it much more engaging than duolingo (which I’ve been using to learn Esperanto thus far). I enjoyed the retro feeling presentation of the book and recordings, and even found myself investing in Petro and Helena’s slightly dysfunctional relationship. The lessons do progress quite quickly, and for this reason I decided to repeat the whole course upon completing the final lesson, as I have not memorised all the information contained within the book and recordings. I am looking forward to starting book two, and am only sorry that there isn’t a book three!
  16. "Camping days -  workbook three" in Esperanto. Written by Stefan MacGill. Illustrated by pavel Rak.

This workbook series uses an immersion approach to language study, and is primarily designed for group use with younger students. Because of its target-language approach (it's written in Esperanto), its particularly suitable for use with students from different language backgrounds. Aligned to the structure of Esperanto, it concentrates on verbs a lot.

The basic scenario is a group of young people of various nationalities at an Esperanto camp. They are inventive and lively people - through their ideas, games and creations, the students meet many interesting people and animals: a cracker-loving bear, a courageous circus juggler, the most incompetent witch in the world, and our own Esperanto hero and spy 005.

This is workbook three in a series of three. Unfortunately workbook one is out of print and not currently available.

  22. Written by Nicole Else. Illustrated by Lilli Giloteaux.

A book about languages, in English, aimed towards children and young adults. Previous editions were titled “Mummy, why can't we all speak the same language?” - but the book isn't actually aimed at very young children.

It mentions lots of different languages: Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Russian, etc. On the left-hand pages there is text, and on the right-hand pages there are quiz questions with multiple choice answers.

The book is divided into 15 short parts:

    • Languages of the world
    • Similarities between languages
    • How languages differ: by their grammar
    • How languages differ: by their alphabet
    • Chinese writing
    • Japanese writing
    • Writing numbers in different languages
    • Different ways of writing English: Braille, Morse, shorthand Phonetic and simplified English spelling
    • Languages in Australia
    • Why is translating so hard?
    • The need for a common language
    • Why can't everyone learn English?
    • What is Esperanto?
    • Why is Esperanto easier to learn?

  23. "Misdirectors - words which make our language difficult" in Esperanto. Written by Przemysław Wierzbowski.

Learn about the most “complicated” Esperanto words whose meanings can be confusing for beginners. Useful for anyone who wants to master the language fully.

In Esperanto, what is roso? And what is rozo? Which of the two is the flower?

When two words are similar, it's important to understand the difference if you're to use them correctly. Words can be confused because they have the same sound (humoro, humuro), or because of their origin and similarity to words in national languages (salato, laktuko). All the words in Konfuziloj have clear illustrations and definitions based mainly on Plena Ilustrita Vortaro [the authoritiative "Complete Illustrated Dictionary"].

What's the difference between vespero and vesperto? Or between deserto and dezerto? Or even between ‘taso da teo’ and  ‘taso de teo’?

You will know the difference, after reading Konfuziloj!

  24. Did you know that Amazon runs a system by which it will transfer a small percentage of the price of eligible products to a charity of your choice? That scheme is called Amazon Smile, and EAB is one of the charity's you can select. To make use of the service, be sure to use the Amazon Smile site rather than the standard Amazon one: smile.amazon.co.uk Everything about the site is the same as the normal one except the name. Once you're there and are logged in, you will be asked to select your charity. We're easy enough to track down: And then you shop as normal. That's all you have to do: the rest is automatic. Hovering on the AmazonSmile item in your user bar will show you which charity you've nominated, and what you've raised so far. It's also available within the app! So it's really straightforward. The only challenge is remembering to shop at Amazon Smile instead of the usual location. You just have to get used to typing 'sm' and letting your browser remember the rest!
