The 47^th Annual General Meeting of EAB was held at St Martins House Conference Centre, Leicester on 26 April 2026.

As usual, the members voted on the trustee candidates for the following year. All four incumbent trustees stood again for election, with Gabriel Beecham the only candidate for president, and James Hawkey standing for the first time.

The results were:

All trustees were duly elected, with Gabriel Beecham reappointed president.

The dates have been announced for this year's exams in Esperanto, run in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR, Komuna Eŭropa Referenckadro (KER) in Esperanto. There will be two online sessions in June, plus in-person exams at the Universala Kongreso, Baltiaj Esperanto-Tagoj (Latvia) and ILEI-kongreso (China). These June sessions are at the levels B1, B2 and C1. The highest level, C2, can be taken during the Universala Kongreso in Graz, or online during that same week.

You can read the dates corresponding to the various levels (B1, B2, C1, C2) and exam types (written, spoken, both) here, along with sign-up forms.

The exams aren't free to take so you will have to pay. But: if you're successful and live in the UK, the examiners will inform EAB so that we can arrange to repay your exam costs, and even pay for a certificate to be printed and posted to you!

• You can use a CEFR self-assessment grid, available here.
• You can take up to two mock exams from home, and they're FREE if you're in the UK because EAB will cover the cost!

Pri Esperanto ŝi aŭdis kiel skoltino, tamen ĝin eklernis nur longe poste, kiam ŝi partoprenis, kun la tiam 17-jara filino, someruniversitaton ĉe Universitato de Loughborough. Kvankam la filino elektis artkurson, Joyce studis Esperanton tri horojn tage dum ses tagoj. 

Sekvis memstara studado per Teach Yourself Esperanto kaj koresponda kurso de EAB. Joyce baldaŭ poste aniĝis al Londona Esperanto-Klubo kaj al ĝia Ĥoro, kaj estis prezidento de Sudmezlanda Esperanto-Federacio, ĝis la forpasoj de la plialtaĝanta membraro neeviteble kondukis al fermo.

En 1991 Joyce estis elektita direktoro de Brita Esperantista Asocio, kaj fariĝis la kasisto de EAB en 1997, enpostenigite ĝis 2011, kiam la nuna kasisto, Clare Hunter, konsentis anstataŭi ŝin. Joyce estis altvalora prizorganto de la kaso kaj diligenta administranto dum sia postenperiodo, helpante al EAB plurmaniere kaj ĉiam fidele.

Kun granda plezuro kaj enorma dankemo, ni festas nian jubileon dankante unu el la ĉefaj kontribuintoj al Esperanto-Asocio de Britio dum ĝia vivo. Dankegon, Joyce!

On the day of EAB's half-century, we're delighted to announce that the Trustees have appointed Joyce Bunting an honorary member of the Esperanto Association of Britain.

She had heard about Esperanto as a girl guide but learned it long afterwards, when she participated, alongside her 17-year-old daughter, in a “Summer University” at Loughborough University. Where the daughter chose an art course, Joyce picked an Esperanto class, which gave her 18 hours of tuition.

There followed self-study via Teach Yourself Esperanto and distance-learning per EAB's Free Postal Course. Joyce soon joined the London Esperanto Club and its Choir, and was President of the South Midlands Esperanto Federation, until the deaths of its ageing membership inevitably caused it to close.

In 1991 Joyce was appointed a Director of the British Esperanto Association, and became EAB's Treasurer in 1997, staying in post until replaced in 2011 by EAB's current Treasurer, Clare Hunter. She had been an invaluable steward of EAB's finances, and a diligent administrator in keeping the Charity well run over the course of her many years of involvement.

With great pleasure and immense gratitude, we celebrate our jubilee by thanking one of the chief contributors to the Esperanto Association of Britain during its life. Thank you, Joyce!

Esperanto-Asocio de Britio festas sian duonjarcentiĝon hodiaŭ! Ĝi fondiĝas la 13-an de marto 1976, kaj registriĝis la sekvan jaron kiel bonfara asocio.

Por festi nian jubileon niaj membroj hodiaŭ troviĝas specialan memoraĵon en sia leterkesto: revuo nomata Kvindek.

(Malgraŭ tio, ke la nomo estas en Esperanto, la enhavo estas plene anglalingva.) En ĝi troviĝas la origino de EAB, foto de la frua konsilantaro, kaj «La Unuan Libron», en traduko de Richard Geoghegan de 1889.

Kvindek estas senkoste elŝutebla. Ni verŝajne aĉetebligos ĝin iam poste. Estas ankaŭ alia maniero ĝin enmanigi: ni poŝt-sendos ekzempleron al ĉiu nova membro, kiu membriĝos en EAB inter nun kaj la apero de numero 1000 de La Brita Esperantisto, kiu estos eldonita en la lastaj monatoj de 2026. Do, aliĝu al EAB se vi deziras subteni nian laboron kaj havigi al vi tiun memoraĵon!

La dua maniero ĝin festi estas per starigo de nia jubilea kongreso, kiu okazos en Leicester (Lestero) en la fino de aprilo. Ni estos en bela kongresejo tage, kaj vespere en teatro. The Esperanto Association of Britain celebrates its fiftieth birthday today! It was founded on 13 March 1976, becoming a registered charity the following year.

In celebration of our jubilee our Members are waking up to a special commemorative magazine called Kvindek dropping through their letter boxes.

Although the name is in Esperanto, the content is wholly in English. It contains the origin story of EAB, plus Doctor Esperanto's International Language from 1889. This is a translation of the “First Book”, with which Ludwik Zamenhof introduced Esperanto to the world in Russian in 1887.

Kvindek – Esperanto for fifty – is available for free download. We might make it available for purchase at a later date, too. There's another way to get your hands on a copy, too: we'll post one to all new Members who join us between now and issue 1000 of our magazine La Brita Esperantisto, which will come out in the final months of 2026. So sign up to EAB if you'd like to support our work and get your hands on this extremely limited edition commemoration!

The second way we'll be celebrating is via our jubilee conference, which takes place in Leicester in late April. We'll be in a large daytime venue, with an evening programme in a theatre, a group meal, and two days of excursions for people stopping on a bit longer. Koincide kun la Internacia Tradukada Tago, Esperanto-Asocio de Britio anoncas siajn novajn traduk-konkursojn cele al eventuala eldonado de du konataj verkoj!

Temas pri The Daughter of Time, ĉefverko de la skota aŭtoro Josephine Tey, libro, kiun, en 1990, nomis la Brita Krimverkista Asocio «la plej bona krimromano de la tuta historio». La dua libro estas la rakonto When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, kiun konas multege da britaj infanoj post ĝia lanĉo en 1971. Ĝi baziĝas parte de la junaĝa vivo de sia verkinto, Judith Kerr, kaj fariĝis filmo en 2019.

Ĉu vi ne volas vidi vian nomon sampaĝe kun tiu de fama aŭtoro?

EAB serĉas novajn tradukistojn ... eĉ se tiuj ankoraŭ ne scias, ke ili kapablas! Spertaj tradukistoj kompreneble kandidatiĝu; ju pli multe, des pli bone! Sed novuloj ne timu, ĉar ekzistas konkurso aparte por tiuj, kiuj ĝis nun neniam eldoniĝis tradukite. (Kaj eĉ se jes, ne gravas, se la longo ne superis 12 000 vortojn!)

Jen kelkaj faktoj:

• Necesas traduki la unuan ĉapitron de unu el la du libroj por konkursi.
• Vi rajtas traduki en ambaŭ konkursoj, se vi volas ja provi dufoje.
• Ni sendos al vi la tradukendan tekston post via aliĝo.
• La limdato por resendi vian tekston estas la fino de la 31-a de decembro, 2025.
• La tekstoj estos sennomigitaj kaj plusenditaj amase al tri juĝistoj.
• The Daughter of Time eblas trovi en Interreto, se vi volas ekscii, kia ĝi estas, antaŭ ol aliĝi.
• Tamen ne eblas fari tion por When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, ĉar plu protektas ĝin kopirajto. Du paĝojn eblas legi ĉi tie por pli bone bildigi al si la stilon.
• La gajnontoj ricevos la taskon traduki la tutan libron, kio havigos al ili je eldonado 500 GBP (~575 EUR). Ili laŭbezone konsultos kun niaj spertuloj.
• Promesplenaj konkursintoj ricevos inviton al plursemajna traduk-ateliero niakoste.

Do, kontrolu la retejon por vidi pli da detaloj kaj la plenan regularon, kaj poste aliĝu!

All trustees were duly elected, with Gabriel Beecham appointed president, succeeding Clare Hunter, elected to the position in 2024 but intentionally standing for a single year as the sole incumbent up for election in that year.

Eblas trapasi KER-ekzamenoj surloke dufoje en 2025: en Toronto dum NASK (en la 11-a de julio), kaj dum la Universala Kongreso en B(u)rno (en la 1-a de aŭgusto).

Samtage estos eble trapasi la ekzamenojn rete:

Precizajn informojn trovu ĉe edukado.net. Se vi loĝas en Britujo, EAB repagos viajn ekzamenkostojn post sukcesa trapasado, tamen ne nur: ankaŭ la atestilon (kaj ĝian liveradon al vi)!

Eblas prepariĝi per provekzamenoj ... EAB antaŭpagis por britaj esperantistoj, do se vi loĝas en Britujo, tion vi povos fari senpage!

Forpasis Renato Corsetti, unu el la grandaj esperantistoj de la lasta duonjarcento, en la aĝo de 83 jaroj. Li loĝis en Londono kun sia edzino, Anna Löwenstein, de 2015, estis kerna motoro malantaŭ la reviviglo de la Londona Esperanto-Klubo, kaj reprezentanto de EAB kiel Komitatano A de UEA inter 2019 kaj 2022. Naskiĝinte en Italujo la 29-an de marto 1941, li mortis en Londono en la 1-a de februaro 2025.
