    Esperanto characters in Quark XPress

That font may be usable for Esperanto with modern software, but would it be usable for Esperanto with Quark 5? Almost certainly not, I would presume. You would presumably need to modify it, replacing some Latin-1 characters with the Esperanto characters. That modification is probably not hard to do, when you know how; I think I may have done something like that myself, a long time ago. The number of people interesting in modifying fonts to use them with pre-Unicode software has probably rather dwindled. You may need some kind of computer archaeologist for this!

    Esperanto characters in Quark XPress

I don't know anything about Quark, but it might be a mistake to use an "Esperanto" font. Esperanto's characters are included in WGL4 (a standard set of about 656 characters), so any modern high-quality font is likely to include them. If a font was specially designed for Esperanto then it's probably a pre-Unicode font that puts the Esperanto characters in a non-standard place, probably instead of some Latin-1 characters. If you find where they are then you might be able to use them, getting the text to look right, but don't expect copy and paste to work. You're probably better off using some modern font that includes WGL4. Edit: Of course, Quark 5 predates Unicode! In that case, try copy-pasting some Latin-1 characters to see if any of them is replaced by an Esperanto letter. Here's U+00A1 to U+00FF for you (hoping it won't cause this crappy JavaScript editor to crash): ¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®¯°±²³´µ¶·¸¹º»¼½¾¿ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓÔÕÖ×ØÙÚÛÜÝÞßàáâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõö÷øùúûüýþÿ

    Perdita poemo: "Kontenta kato"

    Malaperantaj menuoj

Kun Firefox, se mi alklakas iun menuon, ekzemple "Komunumo" aŭ "Aktivado", kaj movas la musmontrilon *malrapide* suben, la menuo malaperas, antaŭ ol mi povas elekti ion. Strange, ke tiel baza afero malbone funkcias.

It certainly is interesting that a   gets inserted when I never touched the space bar.

    Malaperantaj menuoj

Is it possible to enable the "Source" toolbar button? If so, that might reveal some info on what's happening. (Perhaps there's also some way of viewing the source with some browser feature, but I don't know what it would be. The text being edited is stashed in some JavaScript variable, I think.) What is all the invisible stuff at the start of this comment?

    It's too depressing.

    Malaperantaj menuoj

That was 1 3 click 2 on Firefox. Thing is not specific to cursor-left.

Perhaps my cursor-left is different from your cursor-left. Let's try something else: 12 3

Weird. Why is everything so crap? In the old days things were simple and just worked.

I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu here. Probably version 61. Personally I rather like the Markdown-based editor on GitHub...

N No, I think you're describing an entirely different phenomenon. There are a number of differences between what you seem to be describing and what I observe: * With me the menu sometimes disappears if I move the mouse pointer quickly; moving it slowly is a way of reliably making it disappear. * Time has nothing to do with it, as far as I can tell: it can happen 0.5 s or 20 s after clicking. * The menu disappears suddenly (it doesn't "fade") when the mouse pointer crosses a particular line. * I've never experienced this on any other web site. * My guess is that the problem happens when an intermediate position of the mouse pointer happens to be exactly on the boundary of the box containing the menu items. The more slowly you move the mouse pointer, the more likely it is to happen, but it can happen at any speed. It happens frequently enough at normal speeds to be annoying. (The stuff above looked normal before I pressed the button: further evidence of the editor not working, I suppose.)

Message editor - some editing keys have odd behaviour

You could also try adapting the script from vortaro.net, which seems to merge 'x' or 'X' with the previous letter when you type it, but doesn't replace all "cx"s in the text, so you can still enter "cx" by pasting it or by inserting the "c" after you type the "x" or by deleting characters between a "c" and an "x", which is good, I think.
  25. It is now. That's good. (It wasn't yesterday.)
