A description of Viv, which she'll write later. We can add more stuff down the line too.

  5. The shower panels were fitted yesterday - it looks great.
  6. From the T&C's: This is a formality though. The manager (Nigel) has asked if they can promote the event on their website/via social media once we have our branding in place. As an aside, Nigel says that it's likely we'll be the only group using the venue on those dates, so we'd be welcome to use other suites as breakout space for no extra charge.

I think you might be right, Tim, for now anyway. I've signed up to a really helpful website (safenetwork.org.uk - I can send you log-in details if needed) There's information aplenty, help with writing policies and procedures, plus advice for many different kinds of organisations. For the purpose of Lernu I have classed us as a "Hobby Group". Guidance attached. The two basic things we'd need are: Child Protection Policy.Written Safeguarding ProcedureCRB/DBS for staff and volunteers working is good practice, but not necessary. Interestingly other participants should not be asked to undergo CRB/DBS checks. I think, in this case, the important thing to remember is that we're offering tuition at Esperanto House with lunch, nothing more. Taxi/ overnight accommodation and the evening meal are all optional. The parents should take responsibility for where he stays, how he gets here and where he eats. With the above two copy and paste policies we could allow him to come for tuition only. If his parents then want to accompany him to the Duke/share his taxi back then I'm sure NoJEF would oblige with the finances? Even better, he could bring a chaperone. I've had a look at the insurance side of things. We have £5,000,000 of public liability. I do think that we need to update our Business Description (p.5). The current policy assumes our activities: Promotion of Esperanto by way of exhibitions, national congress, book sales and stall, language show. Otherwise office/homeworker based activity. I think we need to notify K&P to add in the "delivery of day courses" or something along those lines whether or not the young student comes along. Safe Network Advice.pdf RENEWAL NOTICE 2014 2015 .pdf I meant to add in that, for future reference, there are many policies on the site that can be copied and pasted: Photography policy, code of behaviour, parental consent etc. etc. anything & everything that we'd never have thought of...

'Safeguarding' is the word of the moment and I suspect we need to risk assess and draw up a policy. I think it's possible we'll need to have DBS checks on Tim and Malcolm too. I'll come back to you later today with what I find out.

Me too! (re insurance) That's a good start :-) Thanks. I'll have a look after lunch to see what I can find.
  10. Super, I'll get the ball rolling. Thanks, Clare.
  11. It's a Windows Live Mail email. PDF attached. Zamenhof Letters.pdf
  12. No one seems keen to give a quote for what is a relatively small job (herein lies the problem; tradesmen like big jobs). The general opinion of people we've spoken too is that we need a plumber to remove the fittings, a tiler to tile/put the sheets up and plumber to put the fittings back again. I put the job onto a website that tradesman locally can see and send a price if they're interested in doing the job. That initiative returned zero results. I'm sure the handyman could do it, but I feel that we need to employ a professional. If the job isn't done properly we could have further damage to the ceiling, stock and new screen! @Clare Are you happy for me to ask Dave from Plumbing Solutions to go ahead and get it done?
  13. I suggested Marjorie, a long shot maybe, but she could possibly have seen them during her time researching for her biography. I've attached Geoffrey's email to this message. Zamenhof letters June 2015.eml
  14. Seeing them both together - I like them both, but I prefer the hint of green one. What do you think?

  16. I was in there looking for an article for Mia H so I had a quick scan for the book whist I was in there. I found it straight away (!) That's a job less for you when you're here now, Paul :-)
  17. I meant black and grey, sorry My initial thoughts were that black and grey might look quite striking with coloured flags.

Room on the Broom -- in Esperanto!

Haha - I agree with you, Clare! It does look a bit like a bomb. I do like it though, I think it's very clever. What next? Bill will need the logo for the website - I'll send him the usual sign-up details. What shall we do re a leaflet? Should I scrap mine and put one together using the logo? Or, because we need to get promoting asap we could use the logo for online/facebook/twitter promotion and I'll just use the updated leaflet to post to people who don't appear to have/use the web.
  19. My first thought is that it's very green ;-) We were lucky early this year, Brighton Pavilion is such a distinctive building and combined with the rainbow colours I think we had a really good logo. My suggestions: Jazz up the colour a bit, I find that particular shade of green a little dull. If we go with green, I'd prefer a more vibrant shade. I know I'll be in the minority, but one of the first things I think of when I think of Liverpool is the Beatles (I know that a Beatles theme won't appeal to many/any Esperantists though!) so I wondered what it would look like in monochrome, with just the flags in green. You did ask ;-)
  20. I haven't forgotten this. I'll send them through soon.

That too I've asked Ava to think over some branding for the event. No response yet. I'll remind her. I have two potential students interested. Did Ava get back to you re branding? I'd really like to have something to hand over to people (one student is a delivery driver who pops in now and again to browse the books; he's teaching himself). I've adapted what I did for the March course and made a couple of changes - it's attached. I've priced the weekend at £17 - this covers the two lunches, with VAT. (Taxi, accommodation and evening meal not included). If you approve of the leaflet I'll send to WGT and get promoting to new students. If Ava hasn't prepared anything then perhaps we can use her next time? Time is flying and we need bums in seats :-) Page 1 is date change only. Page 2 is unchanged. Page 3 some text amended and two quotes from the March students included. Page 4 prices, dates and events altered in the last paragraph. Frances at the 'Secret Kitchen' can do our catering, but I'll need to commit to the minimum booking of ten as it's busy wedding season. Unless you shout I'll book us in and make the menu choices. flyer-lernu-lernu-plu-2015.pdf
  22. The quote is in: "To remove the old tiles shower and shower door. Fit multipanels which come in a variety of colours and refit the shower and shower door would be £820. To do the same thing replacing the multipanels with nice white tiles would be £635. Both these prices include all labour and materials." I will get a second opinion and second quote, unless you're happy to go with this one. It's good practice to get at least two.

I've booked both venues - I'll drop Bill a line to add the dates to the events page on the website. Pricing: I presume you'd like to keep to the same as last year? £10 including VAT. If we attract 14 paying punters @£10 we will break even at the YMCA. If we charge £10 (£8.33 + VAT) for Sheffield and attract the maximum number of 15 paying people we will only recoup £125 of the £150 charge. As refreshments will be included at the Circle a charge of £12 (£10 + VAT) would see us cover costs and be justifiable? Have a think :-)
